Professor Ladislav Kvasz’s research interests are in history and philosophy of science and mathematics. He is currently working on a book focusing on linguistic innovations that accompanied the scientific revolution. He argues that figures like Galileo, Descartes or Newton not only contributed to our knowledge of nature but at the same time they profoundly changed the mathematical language in which we express and justify this knowledge. Another of his recent projects concerns Aristotelian logic. He tries to show that Aristotelian logic was related in its conceptual structure more closely to practical arithmetic than to deductive mathematics of its times.
